New McHenry County Community B-Ball Group Quickly Growing
New to Town, One Local Hooper Built a Thriving Adult Basketball Community from the Ground Up
When Brittney Tewksbury moved to the area, she didn’t know anyone — but she did know she missed playing ball. With no consistent options for adults to get solid runs in, she started organizing her own.
“Basketball has always been my outlet— mentally, physically, socially,” said Tewksbury. “I didn’t want to assume that just because it didn’t exist, it couldn’t happen.”
What started as Tewksbury’s search for a reliable place to play competitive pickup basketball has grown into a thriving, community-built adult hoops group known as FCC Hoops.
FCC Hoops offers a rare balance: Structured, competitive, fast-paced pickup without the rigidity of a league. It’s for the former high school player, the parent who hasn’t played in years, or anyone looking for real competition and a chance to push themselves — but in a way that fits into adult life with families, careers and busy schedules. With the help of the community, Tewksbury’s vision came to life.
Today, FCC Hoops runs three days a week — Wednesday nights, Friday mornings, and Sunday mornings — at local school gyms and facilities, drawing a growing group of dedicated players who show up for the love of the game and the community that’s formed around it.
“Now we’ve got people playing once, twice, sometimes three times a week — and leaving the gym with full hearts. The energy, the camaraderie, the friendships forming around this game... it’s incredibly fulfilling to see.”
The group continues to grow through word of mouth and online buzz. FCC Hoops regularly shares game-day photos and highlights that capture the spirit and intensity of each session — and the joy that comes from simply getting back on the court.
FCC Hoops has already hosted one-day and two-day tournaments and is exploring future expansions and offerings. With low participation fees, a welcoming yet high-energy atmosphere, and strong local support, the group fills a major gap in adult recreation — and proves what can happen when passion meets community.
