Food Shed Permitted to Build

The Food Shed Co-op announced that it’s officially permitted in the city of Woodstock to build a store on its property at the corner of U.S. 14 and Lake Shore Drive.

“We have authorization to build the first-ever grocery store cooperative in McHenry County – that is a big deal,” the co-op said. “Opening a grocery store is a big deal. There are many moving parts and there is such intricate detail involved in designing and building from the ground up.”

This feat also takes teamwork, it added. “From Food Shed Co-op owners and supporters to the Board of Directors to engineers, architects and designers to the City of Woodstock's Planning and Zoning Division, we have reached a maior milestone,” it continued. “We are so grateful to everyone who has gotten us to this point and we are ready for the next steps.”

Look forward to more news as we approach our groundbreaking.

If you haven't joined the Food Shed movement, the co-op invites you to get on board.

“Join us in taking back our local food system and build a local food cooperative promoting a healthy, ethical and resilient community.”
