Fans of movie cars, pop culture, and The Fast and the Furious franchise will have an extremely rare opportunity this weekend as Volo Museum celebrates the 25th anniversary of the release of the original film by allowing guests to sit inside and take photos with the iconic 1970 Dodge Charger driven by Vin Diesel's character, Dominic Toretto.
Three cars were made for the movie. Two were built for stunts, and one “hero” car was built for the close-ups with the actors. Volo Museum owns the one-of-one “hero car ” that is still in the exact same condition that it was when filming wrapped.
For the first time ever, Volo Museum is opening its doors to one of the most recognizable movie cars of all time, giving fans the chance to climb into the driver’s seat and take their own photos with personal cameras and smartphones.
The special photo opportunity will take place Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during regular museum hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participation is $10 per person, with all proceeds benefiting Reach Out Worldwide (ROWW), the disaster relief nonprofit organization founded by the late Fast & Furious star Paul Walker and still operated by the Walker family.
“So many people have asked to take pictures in it over the years,” said Brian Grams, Museum Director and Co-Owner. “I was always hesitant because the car is so valuable. But with this being the 25th anniversary of the original film and with the event benefiting such a great organization that is so closely connected to the franchise, I felt it was worth the risk to give fans this special opportunity.”
The supercharged black Charger has become one of the most recognizable vehicles in movie history and remains one of the centerpiece attractions at Volo Museum. The car’s appearances throughout the Fast & Furious franchise helped cement its status as a global pop culture icon.
“I was shocked that Brian (Grams) agreed to pull the Charger out of the exhibit and make it so accessible,” said Jim Wojdyla, Marketing Director for Volo Museum. He continued, “It’s an extremely valuable piece of movie history and the holy grail of Fast & Furious cars. This franchise has a massive cult following, so we’re really excited to share this experience with them.”
