The Hebron Public Library located at 9908 Saint Albans Street in Hebron, Illinois welcomes readers of all ages to join us for our fun-filled day of festivities on August 9, 2025 at the Hebron Public Library!

At 8:00 a.m., as part of Hebron’s Garage Sale Day, we will be hosting our annual Buck-A-Book Used Book Sale!  We are cleaning out our inventory so we can have more space for new books and we’re selling off our used books at amazing prices!  $1.00 for every book or $5 a bag of books!

Then, at 10:00 a.m., we will be hosting our second annual Local Author Fest!  Local authors from the Midwest will be discussing and selling their books on the sidewalk in front of the library. Our featured authors this year will be: Sharon Angelici, Al Lytle and Toi Blasier, Greta Kelly, Richard Bell, Kevin Rodgers and Rachel Green, and Josh K. Stevens!  And, while you’re supporting your local authors, you will also be able to support your local music scene as we will have live music by Hebron resident, Matt Webber, to help get us in the mood for our evening activities!

Finally, at 6:00 p.m. The Hebron Public Library will be hosting our Third Annual Street Dance!

The event will run from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm and we will be celebrating the 1950s all night! This will include music from the fabulous 50s, dancing, contests and games, hijinks and hilarity, and, of course, fun and enjoyment had by all!

We are still finalizing portions of this event to maximize the fun quota, so make sure you continue to check in on the Hebron Public Library’s Facebook page on a regular basis, but make sure to mark it down on your calendar so you know where you'll be on August 9th!

Can't wait to see everyone cutting a rug on the asphalt on August 9th!

The Hebron Public Library was founded by the “Ladies’ Afternoon Social Club”, a group formed in 1915 with the main intention being to start a library.  After they raised and saved small sums of money throughout World War One, in 1923, the newly elected board rented two rooms above the grocery store on Main Street, where the library was first housed.  Through generous donations of books and some purchased by the social club, the Hebron Public Library first opened it’s doors with a total of 1,925 books. After a successful first few years, in 1926 the library was able to move to a small building on Main Street that was purchased by the club.  The library stayed in that location for 46 years, until, in 1972, the Presbyterian Church disbanded and donated their building to the Library Board for the sole purpose of housing the library. In 2020, after two sizeable donations were bequeathed to the Library, the Library started a beautification project to restore the building on both the outside and the inside. The Hebron Public Library has not relied on federal or state taxes and we continue to be publicly funded solely on donations from our patrons and readers as a 501(c)3 enterprise!
